This will be HUGE, as 2026 is becoming the year for Linux desktops, especially with some really nice distributions like CachyOS and most recently, Omarchy coming out like storms. Games used to be the bottleneck of Linux, and now it has been mitigated mostly by Steam’s Proton. As a general purpose OS, video editing is becoming the only major left over for any normal person to embrace Linux. I am sincerely asking our Blick dev team to be able to deliver it ASAP. Thanks!

That’s exactly what I wanted to ask for.
I am guessing that so many folks are on the same boat looking forward to this. Gingerbill created such a wonderful Odin language and interfaced so many ready/eacy to use libraries which are across multiple platforms, like raylib. Now there is no reason why Linux is falling behind with such an awesome new video editor like Blick. As a seasoned professional, I own all kind of the latest PC’s with Windows, MacOS, different variations of Linux, and freeBSD. I am getting so tired with the bloated Windows operating system, especially its endless and extremely slow update process. Check out the latest Omarchy, everything is running almost instant which has exactly the same philosophy of Blick editor.
I’m on Omarchy for many months now and shifted away from Windows completely, even for gaming. I have to use a stupid MacBook at work, until I find a good way to run Linux on M architecture, that doesn’t kill the performance completely and is compliant with what I’m allowed to do on it.

on your “stupid MacBook at work”, are you using parallels with native arm linux, or utm for qemu (simulated)? which distribution are you using? unfortunately omarchy is not officially supporting arm architecture yet.
The only real answer to when is “before 1.0”. There’s just a bunch of preparations, like a native Vulkan backend, we’ll have to finish before we can ship it. Don’t worry, though, we all want this thing to be on Linux, too! We all want to get off all these other garbage OSes, as well. So, it’s coming!

I tried UTM/qemu which was really sluggish. Hope it get’s official support soon, but as far as I have followed the Asahi Linux discussions, it might take a while. Maybe I switch to other hardware sooner and get better Linux support with that. But that’s another discussion with our IT support department.
